This costume was thrown together for the Midnight Premiere of Serenity.  My friends threw together costumes of other characters from Firefly as well.  We saw Serenity at the ArcLight in Hollywood and our group was only one of the many Firefly cosplay groups there that night. This costume is retired as it was really just for the night.

This is actually a character from a book series, Dangerous Angels by Francesca Lia Block.  Witch Baby (or Nina Bruja as she’s sometimes known) is an orphan with purple eyes and messy black hair who was adopted as an infant.  She always feels [...]]]>

This is actually a character from a book series, Dangerous Angels by Francesca Lia Block.  Witch Baby (or Nina Bruja as she’s sometimes known) is an orphan with purple eyes and messy black hair who was adopted as an infant.  She always feels out of place and she plays the drums to get her emotion out and wears fake wings.  She sometimes has cowboy boot roller skates, but I did not have the time to build some of my own. (Though I really would love to own some one day.)  This costume was worn to Anime Expo in 2004 when I was 18.  No one knew who was and when I told them they assumed it was from some anime they had never heard of.  The costume is retired as the wings are not my own.

I wore this costume for Halloween in 2003 (my senior year of high school). The character is Lydia from the Tim Burton film, Beetlejuice.  I dressed in the outfit you first see her in, a black dress with a black straw hat shaded in a lace veil.  I borrowed my dad’s old film camera to complete the character.  I actually went around taking photos with it all day at school.  I like this character and can relate to her a bit so this costume is not entirely retired.  My friend Caitlin dressed as my Beetlejuice and we were quite a hit.

This costume was worn to my first convention ever.  It was Anime Expo in 2003 and I was 17.  I went with my friends who were way more into anime than I was at the time so I dressed as a cartoon character I actually liked.  I know X-Men Evolution is in no way anime but I did not really care at the time.  Most people thought I was dressed as a J-Pop star or something anyways.  I put it together from things I already owned and bought some cheep spray on white hair spray.  Overall the con was pretty fun considering we only went one day.  My favorite part was definitely seeing everyone in costumes.  This costume is now retired since it was not really a costume so much as a last minute thrown together idea.

Vidcon was an unforgettable experience, it was everything I wished it would be and more! I felt understood and that I belonged in this community more than anywhere else at the moment. Vidcon was an unforgettable experience, it was everything I wished it would be and more! I felt understood and that I belonged in this community more than anywhere else at the moment. The videos I’m making on Youtube matter, people care, I am being heard. Vidcon made me excited about film making in a way film school couldn’t. Thank you everyone who helped make Vidcon such a wonderful an accepting place! DFTBA!
